While I've got this thing out, I'll say one more thing. I've noted before how unfortunate it was that people offering "thoughts and prayers" in the face of a tragedy were met with mockery rather than gratitude. Yes, it's a trite phrase, and maybe some people used it as a substitute for meaningful action they should have been taken, but offering thoughts and prayers to victims of events is a good and decent and necessary thing to do.
